I saw him open for Del a little while ago, and Mike Relm stole the show. He mixes turntables and video clips in sync to put on a hell of a show. Check out some of the downloads on his website here
Just in, the second track from hip hop trio [J]ust [D]ope. The track explains how hip hop goes from one generation to the next bringin’ the “[J]ust [D]ope sound.” Download the track here:
For those unfamiliar with Michael Franti, he is a very politically and socially conscious musician who recently produced a documentary called I Know I’m Not Alone covering the human effects of the war in the Middle East. His music is a hybrid of soul, funk, reggae and of course hip hop (he is usually called a hip hop artist). Below is a video of his song Rock The Nation, the song is a remix that is worse than the original version (it is a slower more elevator music version), but it’s a good video that gives you a taste of Michael Franti.

The defhiphop staff recently found a couple segments from an interview/performance byAtmosphere on MPR (Minnesota Public Radio). It took place on October 3, 2005 around the time of the release of Atmosphere’s album You Can’t Imagine How Much Fun We’re Having. In the interview, Slug talks about panic attacks, self-medicating, his troubles with alcohol, and touring. Download the mp3s below.
